Transition
According to the AAP, switch from crib when:
- Child climbs over the railing (usually 89 cm tall or ~18–24 months)
- Or when they turn 35 months
Types of beds
- Toddler bed: Low, with side rails — 2–4 years
- Regular bed (twin): 4+ years
- Bunk bed: Only 6+ years (per AAP)
Mattress
- Firm — especially for young children
- Hypoallergenic
- No harmful chemicals (CertiPUR-US)
- Waterproof mattress protector
